YMCA Level 3 Award in Education and Training

OVERVIEW:

This qualification provides an introduction to teaching. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:

individuals not currently teaching or training achievement of the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected;
individuals currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) although the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching (unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected), opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher's practice;
individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

Learning Outcomes:

Skills, knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification:

Understand the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training
Understand ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
Understand the relationships between teachers and other professionals in education and training
Understand the types and methods of assessment used in education and training
Understand how to use constructive feedback, keep records and involve learners and others in the assessment process
Understand quality assurance and the legal and good practice requirements in relation to assessment
Be able to plan, deliver and evaluate inclusive teaching and learning
Be able to facilitate one to one and group learning and development

PREREQUISITES:

None
Learners need to be 18yrs and over

Course duration:
Option 1 - 3 days face to face learning plus 1 assessment day / 10-5pm

- Portfolio of evidence
- Practical demonstration/assignment

YMCA Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

OVERVIEW:

This qualification is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (e.g. classroom, training environment).

Learners will cover:

The principles and requirements of assessment
Different types of assessment method
How to plan and carry out assessments, involving learners and others
Providing appropriate feedback following assessment
Quality assurance of the assessment process
Legal and good practice requirements

PREREQUISITES:

Learners for this qualification must be aged 19 and above and have access to learners (candidates), who are on a vocationally-related training programme, and who they will be able to assess in the training environment.

FORMAT/ASSESSMENT:

Option 1 - 1 Day Face to face learning / 9am - 5pm

Assessment:
- Learners are required to complete a set of knowledge questions and compile a portfolio of practical based evidence; submission of video evidence is also desirable.

CIMSPA Endorsed - Tutor and Assessor Mentoring Programme

OVERVIEW:

The mentoring programme aims to prepare aspiring tutors to deliver and assess Fitness courses in their specialist area.

It complements the Award in Education and Training and the Award in Assessing by giving learners the opportunity to observe and progressively deliver courses under the guidance and mentorship of experienced tutors.

The Qualification is mapped directly to:

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standards for a Tutor/Assessor.

This will include how to:

Plan and structure sessions
Deliver active and engaging theory sessions
Check learning
Link sessions together into an overall 'learning journey'
Manage group dynamics
Apply formative and summative assessments
Complete course paperwork and administration

PREREQUISITES:

Level 3 Fitness Qualification.
Already have, or be working towards the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and Level 3 Award in Assessing, or equivalent.
Industry experience as an Exercise Instructor

Total qualification time inclusive of guided learning hours 208hrs

Assessment:

Learners are required to deliver a full Course including Assessment.
